I had essential work matters to finalize with my associates this week. Yesterday, she found out she has jaundice and needs to rest.
Our schedule was finalized 15 days ago. She traveled to a few places, which might have affected her health.
We can plan in advance, but such things are beyond our control.
So, now what? my week will be wasted?
Yes, only if I don’t replan.
Absolutely, No, if I already have an alternative plan.
or Don’t know, if I am clueless about what I shall do
We mostly live in two segments only – plan on or plan off. We either deliberately or unconsciously forget that there is always the option of improvising the plan and rescheduling the week.
So, every Monday morning, take a fresh look at your planning and improvise according to the current circumstances.
Tick off all the plans that you still think will go ahead. If you think some might have less than a 50% chance of executing, mark them and write alternatives beside them.
For example, my work associate declined a meeting to rest. Can I ask her to visit her home just to check on her? Anyway, that time was allotted to her.
Or should I reschedule some weekend meetings so that I can relax on Sunday?
Plan a week today but be ready to reschedule every day until the new week starts.
Cancellations and postponements are part of life, but if we are always ready with alternative plans, we will never end up wasting our valuable time.
Take control of your time and schedules with macro yet flexible planning.
SELF-REFLECT:
Do you have maximum control over how your week goes? Or are you just led by one event after another?
If you don’t know how you reach Friday from Monday, it’s time to sit in the driver’s seat and take charge by mindful living.
